Barbara lives with her husband Ian in Burbage Wiltshire, just south of the Savernake Forest where the Big Belly Oak stands.
For the last five years, she has enjoyed getting to know the area, walking along the many paths and tracks in and around the village. Some walks take her out into the surrounding countryside, in an area which has been designated, ‘of outstanding natural beauty’, the statement she most definitely agrees with.
With adult children and five grandchildren, along with many interests, Barbara is a very busy lady.
Barbara Enjoys:-
Spending time with family and friends.
Creating pencil drawings of pets and children (several commissions undertaken).
Music, which is very varied, from classical to live bands and concerts
(she sadly loves Take That) and is attempting to play the piano badly!
Travelling, her favourite places visited so far are -
New Zealand, Australia, Egypt, Japan, Malaysia, USA where she worked for
two years in Virginia with Ian. Munich for the Oktoberfest, meeting up with her great
friends from Germany and the US.
Even with her hectic schedule, Barbara has found the time to write two picture books for younger children, (these are currently with agents for review) and has started writing a novel for older children, this one is about Bees.
Why I decided to write the book.
It all started as I drove through the Savernake Forest on a snowy winter’s day 2011.
The Big Belly Oak was there in my rear view mirror, with snow covering his branches and his gaping mouth dark against the snow, he appeared to be looking right at me. My granddaughter had told me that something lived inside the tree and thoughts had gone through my head, but I just dismissed them.
That snowy day, I could not stop thinking about the tree, I just knew I had to write my thoughts down.
Well, nearly a year later and the book is here.
